As an effort to create a new identity for Microsoft's search services, Live Search was officially replaced by Bing on June 3, 2009. The Bing name was chosen through focus groups, and Microsoft decided that the name was memorable, short, and easy to spell, and that it would function well as a URL around the world.

Bing is a search engine. If you can't use/ try New Bing in your Chrome browser it's a restriction of Chrome and NOT a restriction imposed by Microsoft or Edge.

Bing is a Microsoft-owned alternative to Google, and thus can be used in any web browser or as an app on your smartphone. You can also set Bing as the default search engine in Chrome, Firefox, or Safari if you wish; if you use Microsoft Edge or Internet Explorer, Bing is the search engine by default.
