Brazil is the most populated country in the region, with an estimated 215 million inhabitants in that year, followed by Mexico with more than 128 million.

The 33 countries of Latin America and the Caribbean, together with several Asian, European and North American nations that have historical, economic and cultural ties with the region, comprise the 46 Member States of ECLAC. Fourteen non-independent territories in the Caribbean are Associate Members of the Commission.

Brazil is by far the largest country in Latin America, both in area and in population.
